GrabIt Configuration Guide for UsenetServer

To configure GrabIt for use with UsenetServer, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Download and Install GrabIt

• Visit the official GrabIt website and obtain the latest version of the application.

• Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Step 2: Configure UsenetServer During Initial Setup

• After launching GrabIt for the first time, the configuration wizard will appear.

• When prompted, enter the following hostname: news.usenetserver.com.

• Enter your UsenetServer username and password when asked for account credentials.

Optional: Update Server Information and Enable SSL

• To make changes after the initial setup, locate UsenetServer under the 'My GrabIt' section.

• Right-click on the server name and select 'Server properties'.

• To enable SSL, check the box labeled 'Encrypted server connection (SSL)'.

• You can also update the port (563 or 443 for SSL; 20, 23, 25, 119, 3128, 7000, 8000, or 9000 for non-SSL), change your login credentials, or adjust connection limits if needed.

Step 3: Retrieve Group List

• In the main GrabIt window, right-click on the UsenetServer entry in the server list.

• Select 'Refresh grouplist' to download the list of available newsgroups.

Step 4: Subscribe to Newsgroups

• Once the group list update is complete, click on the 'All Groups' tab.

• Use the search function to find newsgroups of interest.

• Right-click on a desired newsgroup and select 'Subscribe' to add it to your subscriptions.

Step 5: Access Usenet Articles

• Navigate to the 'My GrabIt' tab to view your subscribed newsgroups.

• Right-click on a subscribed group and select 'Full Update' to retrieve the latest headers.

• Browse the headers to find articles of interest.

• Right-click on selected articles and choose 'Grab' to initiate the process.
