We peer (trade articles back-and-forth) with other news providers around the world to ensure that you get the most binary and text Usenet articles available.

What Does Completion Mean on Usenet?

Completion refers to how many articles are available on a Usenet provider’s servers compared to the total articles posted to Usenet. A provider with high completion has nearly all articles available for access. A provider with low completion may be missing parts of articles or entire posts, leading to gaps in what is available.

Under normal conditions, we have over a 99% completion rate across all newsgroups, meaning that you get the most out of the user-generated articles posted to the Usenet.

What Affects Completion Rates?

Several factors can influence a provider's completion:

  • Uptime and Server Syncing: Articles are distributed across a global network of Usenet servers. If a provider’s servers miss articles during this distribution, they will not be available for access.

  • Retention Policies: If a provider maintains a short article retention period, older articles may no longer be available. UsenetServer offers one of the highest article retention rates available.

  • Server Errors or Incomplete Feeds: Hardware issues or incomplete feeds from other providers may also cause missing articles.

SSL Encryption and Article Access

When connecting to UsenetServer using SSL, the connection between your device and the servers is encrypted. This encryption makes it extremely difficult for anyone on the network to view your data while it is in transit. Using SSL is recommended for both privacy and security.

How to Maximize Your Completion

To improve your chances of accessing all available articles:

  • Use a provider with high article retention, such as UsenetServer.

  • Choose SSL-enabled connections in your newsreader settings.

  • Make sure your newsreader is configured correctly and regularly updated.

Conclusion

Completion directly impacts how many articles are available to access through your Usenet provider. Choosing a provider with long article retention, secure SSL connections, and a strong global server infrastructure helps reduce the chances of missing articles.
